QA
CROWSONS
Family Funeral Directors
In 2003, Toby and Jane Hunt took over Crowsons from Mr and Mrs Gunn. They already owned their family firm, Toby Hunt Funeral Directors in Earls Barton, and wanted to expand into the Oundle and Thrapston area. In this issue of Jigsaw, Toby answers our Q&A.
Tell us more... The business has been in Barnwell since around 1890, we found some old photos of Mr Crowson from that era and found them very interesting. The funeral home has now been at the same site for 130 years.
What’s the best thing about being in the Thrapston area? With having our friendly office in Huntingdon Road, we feel very much part
of the community. My two daughters, Milly
and Hatty, play for the Ladies Cricket Team in Thrapston. It’s so lovely to feel part of the local town. Sometimes we see the same families coming back to use Crowsons generation after generation.
Any famous people walked through the door? Although they didn’t walk through our door, we were asked to provide our Daimler hearse and limousines for the filming of Kinky Boots in 2005. They were used for the opening scenes of the film.
If you weren’t a Funeral Director, what would you be? I wouldn’t really know as I’ve been involved in funerals all my life. I was probably the first school pupil who chose my work experience at a funeral home back in the mid 80’s, so it is all I really know. I have thought I’d try my hand at building, however I’d struggle to find employment as my children call me a DIY disaster.
Most interesting floral tribute? There have been a few interesting requests from tractors to wellies, but probably a snooker table, using stuffed deflated balloons to represent the different coloured balls.
