fetes, bandstands, local events, charity events, church services and remembrance parades. At Christmas time the band particularly enjoys carolling within the local community and performing at local care homes. In
1970 the group started ‘learner’ classes to teach local people how to play brass instruments and they are well known for teaching local, young people. Many of whom have gone on to play for Championship section bands or become professional musicians.
In October 2019, Nathan
Waterman was appointed the band’s Musical Director. Nathan began his
brass playing career as a young learner with Thrapston Town Band at the age of 12. He has played for many top bands including; Brighouse & Rastrick, Desford Colliery and
most predominately The GUS Band. Nathan understands first-hand the importance of teaching and inspiring the next generation of players and the role that local grass roots bands
such as Thrapston play in this. His objective when returning to the band as MD was to lead the band into a new and exciting era. It is greatly hoped that securing a new practice facility will enable this.
If you have any ideas regarding possible practice venues, please contact: Tracey Compton-Marriott, Band Secretary on 01832 735371 or email thrapstontownband@gmail.com.
Booking enquiries and new players are also warmly welcomed. For further information on the band you can also look at the band website: www.thrapstontownband.com
