                                was a national serviceman called up into the Worcestershire Regiment in 1952 who underwent basic training at Lichfield. Due to a family bereavement he was taken off the draft to 1 Worc R in Malaya and sent to 1 Cheshire to complete his service.
MERREY Edgar Pte
of Sudbury, Derbyshire died on 22 August 2015 aged 91. He was called up in 1940 and after basic training at Worcester he joined
a draft for 1 Worc R but on arrival in Egypt volunteered to act as
an anti-aircraft gunner on a merchant ship in a convoy bound for Malta, which was being besieged by Italy. The convoy was attacked by Italian aircraft but, despite some ships being hit, arrived safely to cheers by the local inhabitants. He returned to UK via Gibraltar, was posted to 7 Worc R and went with it to India in 1942. He fought through the Burma campaign
from 1944 to August 1945 before being discharged. In the 1990s he was invested by the Malta Government with a medal which commemorated the 50th anniversary of the award of the GC to the island for his service on one of the relieving convoys.
MILLWARD Harold Pte of Congleton died on 18 August 2015 aged 81. He was called up as a National Serviceman in 1952 and after basic training joined 1st Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment in Malaya.
On the Battalion’s return to UK he spent the last few months of his service at Bulford.
MORRIS Shaun Lewis Pte of Mansfield died on 21 March 2015 aged 51. Shaun joined A Coy 3 WFR (V) on 10 November 1981 where he served until 17 October 1982 when he left to join the 1st Battalion, The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment with whom he served until leaving the Army on 5 February 1986.
NARBETT Stephen John (Narb or Tabs) A/Sgt of Lytham St Annes died on 27 April 2015 aged 58. Narb enlisted into
The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment on 1 September 1972
and completed postings and tours in the UK, Germany, NI, Cyprus and Belize and was awarded the UN medal and GSM with clasp for NI. Following his discharge in 1993, he worked in the pub and hotel
management trade before finding his niche working with adults with learning difficulties.
NOBLE Reginald (Reg) John Pte of Nottingham passed away peacefully
on 15 December 2014 in Nottingham
City Hospital. Reg joined 73 Engineer Regiment (V) on its formation in 1969 at Wigman Road Drill Hall, Bilborough before transferring to D (Robin Hood Foresters) Coy 3rd Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment (V) at the same location in May 1971. He then moved with D Coy 3 WFR in 1975 to Broadgate Drill Hall, Beeston where he continued
to serve until discharged in the 1980s.
PARNHAM CH (Chris) Maj TD of Strafford- upon-Avon died on 4 September 2015 aged 72. After service as a National Serviceman in the York and Lancaster Regiment he served
as an Officer in the
West Riding ACF 1962-71, then in the Yorkshire Volunteers
for 3 years. In 1974 he joined 3rd Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment (V) and from 1975- 1977 served with 1 WFR in Ballykelly, Colchester and South Armagh. He then spent 5 years in the UDR before serving
as a Company Commander in 1 Wessex
POOL G CSgt of Manton, Worksop died on 25 December 2014 aged 86. CSgt Pool joined 3rd Battalion The Worcestershire
and Sherwood Foresters Regiment (V)
in 1973 and left the Army in 1979
POWELL Dennis Edward Pte Dennis died suddenly on 4 November 2015.
He enlisted into The Worcestershire Regiment on 10 January 1963 and was posted to Gibraltar, Tobruk and Cyprus, serving with the Anti Tank Platoon and the Regimental Recruitment Team. Dennis was a keen footballer and a good all round sportsman. After nine years service Dennis left the regiment on the 6 January 1972 and spent three years in the Territorial Army in Silver Street, Worcester.
READY Gerald Pte Gerald died on 23 March 2015. He enlisted into 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters Regiment in August 1958 at Derby and served until June 1964
REYNOLDS John D Col MC of Worcester died on 7 Nov
2015. He enlisted in the Worcestershire Regiment in 1940, volunteered for service with 3 Commando and took part in raids on the Norwegian coast before
to 3 Commando he served in North Africa and the Sicily landing where his platoon captured a bridge. He then landed in Italy in advance of the invasion and, despite being attacked, sent back valuable information for the invasion force for which he was awarded the MC for displaying “leadership, a disregard for danger and an excellent example”. He was later wounded in Italy and on recovery rejoined 3 Commando in Normandy and took part in river crossings on the Rhine, Aller and Elbe. After the
war he joined 1st Bn the Worcestershire Regiment in Trieste, Pola and in Berlin during the Airlift. After Staff College he served in Canada, then in Jamaica with
the Regiment before being appointed the last Commanding Officer of the Regimental Depot at Norton, followed by a tour with the Aden Protectorate Levies. On promotion
in 1962 he commanded 3 Cheshire (TA) followed by staff appointments in Hong Kong and Kuwait. In retirement he served as Regimental Welfare Officer.
ROBINSON Bryan Keith Maj TD of Long Eaton, Derbyshire died on 15 August 2015 aged 84. Bryan was called up for National Service on 5 May 1949 and after training was posted to the Royal Army Education Corps
at Chilwell as a Sgt in December 1949.
On leaving the Army he joined the TA as a Sgt and between 1951 and 1959 served with; 66 AA FC Tp RA TA, 58 AA FC Tp RA TA, 262 HAA Regt RA TA and 438 LAA Regt RA TA before being commissioned in 1959. He then served with 140 Engr Regt RE TA, was 2IC and OC of 438 (DA) Fd Sqn RE TA, OC of B Coy Derby Foresters TAVR and RHQ Tp 73 Engr Regt RE (V). He then moved to 3 WFR (V) where he was 2IC of B Bty at Beeston, OC D Coy
at Beeston, Trg Major at Newark and OC HQ Coy at Newark. Bryan retired in 1988 but continued his links with 3 WFR and was instrumental in forming the 3 WFR Branch of WFRA and became their long time treasurer as well as filling the post of President of Long Eaton Branch WFRA.
ROGAN Derek CSgt of Newark who died on 9 December 2014. Derek, who was born in 1930 and completed his National Service with the Lincolnshire Regiment in 1949-1950 serving with them in Palestine. He then enlisted in 8th Battalion (V) in 1950 and served with them until his discharged in 1969 obtaining the rank of CSgt.
Derek remained involved with the military through his work with the RBL and was Chairman of the Newark Branch WFRA
