UNWANTED GUESTS
‘What on earth was that?’ called Sadie Squirrel jumping out of bed. ‘Alfie! Wake up! Twigs are falling on the roof.’
Sadie went across to their bedroom window and insisted Alfie get out of bed to see the mess. ‘Look at the dust and needles, they’re everywhere.’
Alfie, bleary-eyed, put on his clothes and walked to the front door. The squirrels lived in a two-tiered lodge high in the conifer trees. Their bedroom was on the upper level and their children, Jackson, Harry and Bella slept on the lower level. Alfie stepped along the large supporting branch and looked up.
‘Hey! What are you doing?’ he shouted. ‘Who’s up there?’
