Paris explained how Mr Hedgehog and Badger had organised a plot, which they had called a sting, to catch and destroy a black deer who was intent on stealing the fairy queen’s crown. However, if they were cunning and clever enough to fool the deer into believing that the doll was Sophia, and caught him in the act, they could and would be able to destroy him.
Fay was surprised. ‘So they are going to kill it?’
‘Oh! I don’t think so,’ said Sadie anxiously. ‘Alfie would never consider such an act. I imagine that they intend to catch it. I never thought to ask him what would happen if they did. I’ll find out when I get home tonight.’
