‘It’s a fake. Hold it and feel it for yourselves.’
Bryony examined the crown. ‘But this is a full crown; the original crown no longer exists.’
‘Oh, but it does,’ said Sophia. ‘The crown was too big, so Firethorn altered it for me to a tiara, a pendant and bracelet. I still have the same powers when I wear them together.’
Sophia smiled, removed her tiara and placed it inside the box. She positioned the fake crown on the back of her head.
‘We must do this every evening before the fairies leave. Now I will go and speak to them and then I will rest in my hammock. The gulls have arrived from the coast to watch over you day and night and are concealed in the enchanted garden. Badger assures me that we will be safe and must keep up this charade for the time being.’
