And so it was. Every night, the same procedure was followed. The gnomes sat down to their dinner and laughed; the elves were more mischievous; the woodland birds continued their roosting rituals and when the fairies returned, Sophia went to her residence.
Badger’s home was next door and Sophia agreed to go to him by unlocking a door in her bedroom, walking down a short connecting passageway and arriving safely in Badger’s kitchen. There, she would spend the night in his spare room. Finally, Badger would rest easy.
Willow Heron, Yappy Pigeon and his friend, Horatio worked in shifts flying above and through Barns Wood every night. Every metre of land was monitored across the valley.
