Lily’s pencil line drawing of the bird was impressive. Andrew Weston thought that the wing-span, beak and markings were spot on.
‘It looked like a baby elephant with long wings,’ laughed Lily. ‘When it flew away loads of conifer needles floated down and it frightened a squirrel, I think. You can keep the picture, Dad.’
His youngest daughter wasn’t impressed by what she had seen and had gone upstairs to dress. Emma and Jacob, on the other hand, were eager to hear more about the impressive bird and why it chose their tree.
