GOLD RINGS
The entrance to the garden was in shade and above it hung drooping branches of silver birch leaves. Badger peered through his window, waiting for any sign of movement. He looked from side to side, and up and down but there was nothing. They couldn’t wait all night and it was up to him to decide if the plan was to be called off. He was in two minds to do so when he saw something glinting on the far side of the garden.
Two antlers appeared above a holly bush; then two ears; two glinting eyes and a nose. ‘A face of evil,’ thought Badger, touching his pounding heart.
To his right, a sudden breeze moved the hammock, making the figure stir a little. ‘It couldn’t have happened at a better time,’ thought Badger.
