around the trees. Charlie shook his head and smiled. They were all wearing black eye masks and carrying imitation spy glasses made from reeds.
Paris and her sisters rushed over to their dad. The hedgehog lads found Sam, and Alfie bounded over the garden to lift his daughter, Bella, and son, Harry, into the air.
Sophia stood beside the hammock and raised her hands to ask for silence. She gazed at the crowd. ‘I cannot thank you enough for what you have done here today. You have been very brave and by working together, your courage has saved the Barns Wood Fairy Kingdom. My quest will live on, thanks to you. Might I suggest that we have a celebration.’
The animals partied until dawn before going home. Two days later, Badger returned to his old home in the meadow because he missed his card nights with his pals.
Charlie called in to see him. The friends hadn’t spent a quiet moment together for ages and Charlie could see that Badger needed reassurance about the recent events. He said that he could have done better if he had listened to others.
‘But you did a great job, Badger, and you kept us on our toes. It’s only now that we can look back and reflect on what happened.’
‘Yes, we can. There was so much going on that I’ve forgotten some of the incidents. What happened to that white heron?’
‘You mean Serenity. At first, we thought she was the deer. It turned out that she was actually looking for work. Willow Heron was delighted to offer her a job.
