Ex 2LI and RIFLES soldier Simon Ransom recently found himself surrounded by friends and volunteers to help raise money for personalised home improvements, as he fights Motor Neuron Disease.
Enter Ex Light Infantry friend and eternal RIFLES fund raiser Coco Cocoran, who decided as a challenge, to take something belonging to Simon to the highest point in Somerset where he lives and found Dunkery Beacon standing at 519m. He quickly set out a plan, collected volunteers and within just a few days, took Simon’s beloved Sheffield Wednesday football towel and RIFLES flag to the top.
Simon Ransom and his wife, Nicola attended the challenge to show their support and Simon was presented with an engraved glass plaque to mark the occasion.
The team of volunteers were able to raise £2644 to help towards personalised home improvements for Simon.
Volunteers who marched to the top: Coco, David Cameron, Richard Davey, Tim Daplyn, John Williams, John Palk with his wife and daughter who are Simon’s neighbours.
