Our opportunity to give back to Grenada and celebrate its success
Outreach/Short Term Training Team (STTT) travelled to Grenada in February for its 50th Independence celebrations and to pass on skills.
On 3 February, I embarked on a flight to Grenada, my home country, to meet with other members of the British Grenadian Armed Forces Association (BGAFA) and participate in Ex In-De-Day 2024. Our team of five were looking forward to taking part in the 50th Independence celebrations and to conduct outreach on the island. The team consisted of service personnel from Grenadian backgrounds working in different roles within the Army: Staff Sergeant Forrester-Frame (QARANC), Sergeant Baptiste (RIFLES), Sergeant Charles (PWRR), Corporal Joseph (REME), and Lance Corporal Rodney (RLC).
Upon arriving, we met with the British High Commissioner in residence on the island to discuss our plans for the outreach and the 50th Independence Parade celebration. We also had the opportunity to discuss the aims of the BGAFA as we endeavour to give back to Grenada through training and charity.
Our first engagement was at the independence celebration, where we assisted with medical support for the event. During the event, we were introduced to some of the dignitaries of the Government of Grenada. The day was filled with activities celebrating the history of Grenada, along with a military parade. As Grenadians, it was a proud moment to be present at such a prestigious event and to receive positive feedback from fellow Grenadians, who expressed pride in our efforts to give back to our country.
