In later years Jim and Pearl visited the Dogs Trust and came away with a bag of mischief they called Murphy, so Pearl had two mischievous Murphys.

PETER COMRIE
Peter was born in Falkirk Royal Infirmary on 4 October 1940, the third son of James and Margaret Comrie. He became, ultimately, one of five brothers and, on leaving school at fifteen, he took on his first job as an apprentice plumber with Campbells in Falkirk. However, he decided to enlist and joined the Royal Scots Greys in May 1961. After his basic
training in Catterick, he was posted to BAOR for eight months and, during a period of extended leave between July and August 1962, he married Cathy on the 11 August. Peter was then posted to Aden between August 1962 and December 1963 after which he and Cathy moved into a married quarter in Germany, where they lived until he left the Regular Army in May 1967, although he remained as an Army Reservist until May 1973.
On their return to Falkirk with their first son, Stuart, Peter secured work as an NDT Technician working on the new M9 motorway across Central Scotland. As this project neared an end, it became apparent his next project would
after a difficult last few months. He would have been very pleased at all the Grey Berets who attended his funeral. He is survived by his wife Pearl, daughters Jane, Mary and Anne and granddaughter Jenny.
be heading south to work on the ongoing construction of the M6. Peter decided this was not for him and he secured a job in the British Aluminium factory in Falkirk, where he worked for almost twenty seven years, during which time another son, Jim, was born in 1971.
Peter was devastated when Cathy died in November 1999 but with the passage of time and a loving family, he spent many a weekend and many family holidays abroad, enter- taining his grandsons, Jack and Louis.
Peter was proud of his time in The Royal Scots Greys and was immensely happy when he reconnected with former Army friends on social media. When visiting him, his family often found Peter on his computer on the various Facebook sites reminiscing and looking at old pictures.
Sadly, Peter’s health started to worsen in the middle of 2022, although he retained his independence, even managing to drive to the shops and back every day for his lunch right up until the day he died suddenly on 3 January 2023.
