went above and beyond on his map marking, dropping perspiration onto the map for lifelike water features.
The RSWO, as charming as always, used his deployment to Germany to increase his facetime with Major Generals. When WO2 “Ginge” Burns gave an introduction brief to GOC 1UK X X when his visited, after he had finished his brief he zoned out to prep for his next speaking part of the serial. The GOC was then briefed on the CBRN threat at which point he turned to the RSWO and asked if he was scared. WO2 Burns, having not tracked the conversation, replied “Of what? Of you?! Naw!”
During our down time, Command Troop had the opportunity to visit an Outdoor Swimming Pool, Borussia Dortmund stadium, Salt Baths, Paderborn, Dortmund, Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, Solitos beach bar and many more areas of day, and night, life.
A Sqn conducted Ex SENNE EAGLE (their collective level CHARLIE validation exercise) which was enabled by Command Troop (minus) acting as the safety net, and providing SSgt Christie and Capt Peppiatt as OMs for their exercise. Here we worked with the 2 Royal Anglians Command Troop where we were introduced to the SV set up HQ element which we would later be using on Ex WESSEX STORM.
CAST
CAST started with the usual PACEx of all the vehicles being used on exercise before deploying out on the ground. Most of the exercise was learning how to ChOC and set up the SV style BGHQ. This was done again and again till everyone knew exactly what they were doing every time the words “Prepare to ChOC” were whispered. It was also a great learning period before using this style of BGHQ on Ex WESSEX STORM. BGHQ and Command Troop absolutely smashed CAST as expected (to quote the IO, Capt Jack Scrutton “We’re the best.”).
