28 EAGLE AND CARBINE
For the duration of CAST we were privileged enough to have Sgt Roseru and Cpl Gray cook us fresh food every day. They were always “borrowing” fresh fruit and extra snacks from the kitchen fridges for the exercising troops! Due to this requiring someone to play RLS it seemed like the most suitable option was to make me a delivery driver and dinner lady for a portion of the exercise, LCpl “Brucey” Lee took over dinner lady duties halfway through the week, some say the meals were never served with love again.
The CBRN phase of the exercise took place on one of the hottest days of the year, around 32 degrees in full CBRN kit. Command Troop was grafting hard in the heat of the day ChOC-ing BGHQ and getting caught in cam nets. Once established BGHQ became a concealed sweat box for the rest of the day until the good news finally arrived around 1800 that we could de-kit!
EX WESSEX STORM 2/23
As Ex WESSEX STORM drew closer and closer and everyone was searching for suitable injuries to keep them in their warm toasty beds and not a piss wrapped doss bag for 6 weeks, the RSO had a date with a good-looking swinging door in the Officers’ Mess. WO2 “Ginge” Burns now collected the final card of the G6 CoC, adding RSO to his list of jobs covered in 2023.
Tpr Jones however managed to make it down onto the Plain before making his attempt at that warm cosy bed. He saw his opportunity whilst trying to use his cam net as a parachute and left himself dangling by the legs.
Noting that their must be another way to get away from the woodblocks, LCpl Wilson also tried his hardest to get back to his toasty bed by becoming the destroyer of vehicles. His first being a complete write off on the road move down. The tyre blow out wasn’t enough he made sure Eddie Stobbart finished his wagon off by skelping the rear end of it and ensuring it got recovered back to Leuchars. His total vehicle count by EndEx was 3! LCpl Lee quickly became known as the Wee-GLO while Cpl
Morrison became known as “Wet Wipe” for his abundance of the baby cleaning tools.
A NOTE FROM THE RSO
2023 has been an incredibly busy year for the team in Command Troop, with big names moving to pastures new, namely Cpls Rorie, Batiuluna, McCubbin and LCpls Gray and McGregor – a massive thank you and good luck to them as they move onto the next stage of life, and everyone for their hard work. It has, without a doubt, enabled the success that BGHQ has enjoyed.
