QUARTERMASTERS’ DEPARTMENT
Capt G Smith
2023 started with a trimmed down team due to the Op NEWCOMBE 5 deployment. QM, Capt Smith stepped up to be OC ROG whilst WO2 (RQMS) McCall ran the department with the assistance of; SSgt Hallam, Sgt Morgan-Williams, Cpl Crawford, LCpl McAinsh, Ferrans and Briandt who all done a sterling performance throughout. Also, to mention Cpl “Jonah”, Jones, who has the best resettlement program ever – well timed! Not forgetting Sgt Musson who deployed forward, great opportunity to lessen his workload.
The department welcomes WO2 (RQMS) Harley “the 9 to 5 guy on a good day” from B Sqn. LCpl Ferrier from A Sqn to be the new Unit Ammunition Storeman and Pte Ralolo.
With the team corralled and enthused initially by WO2 (RQMS) Scotty McCall, it would surely be a calm period in the FOE to prepare the department to receive the unit back from operations. Or so we thought!
Dec 22 seen the FOE being released by RHQ. First part of the year the department supported Barry Buddon Ranges (Jan 23), Kirkcudbright Ranges (Feb 23) and
in the longer-term planning lifting and shifting the 200 SP to a range package at Magilligan Ranges in Northern Ireland whilst receiving ROTA 5 Op NEWCOMBE back from theatre. All easily achievable with only minor bumps along the way. Such like the ammunition truck driven
by LCpl Ferrans, having a meeting engagement with a civilian car on the bypass back to the range.
No issues, ammo arrived,
and ranges commenced. All what was needed was afewinterviewsbeing conducted with those involved with the Police Service Northern Ireland (PNSI).
The deployment was over the period of the Coronation and the Cavalry Memorial Parade (As we know led bySCOTSDG),allata
good time. This meant the new RQ was conducted his HOTO on mobile phone whilst on drill practice and mustering scarlets for ORs. Thanks to Cpl “Jonah” Jones who made the gloves white for the ORs. Whilst, over in NI the advance party were invited by the local resident’s breakfast to celebrate all.
Summer seen the department support A Sqn on mounted ranges in Germany, then the regiment on ARCADE LEDGER. As with all B Ech movement, we went first and came back last. Albeit our itinerary didn’t include a bus journey via Kendrew Barracks and the Channel Tunnel. Cabins on the Newcastle/ Amsterdam ferry crossing with all meals paid. The journey didn’t go without a hitch. LCpl Ferrans assisted by Tpr Sutherland in the Pantec, yet again attracted attention. VOSA stop on UK side and a similar encounter on the German side with the Polizei. Outcome, vehicle impounded awaiting repairs. Clearly German MOT standards are better than UK. All good learning, LCpl Ferrans is clearly an MT Sgt of the
future.
Teamarrivedwith forward elements of A Sqn, Sgt Musson familiarised himself
