officers the opportunity to get up close and personal with the kit, as well as being able to talk to the soldiers who operate it.
The Sustain stance was particularly well presented, with a hefty dose of humour injected as we followed a blue box being transported through the logistics
chain from the stores system in the UK through to a fictional front line overseas. It also introduced the officers to some of the less commonly considered but impressive capabilities such as mobile workshops, dog handling teams, dive capabilities and engineering facilities. The importance of logistics to support the fight at the front line was illustrated
Perspective From Canada Major Adam Siokalo
THREE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES students attended ACSC 21, one each from the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force. Similar to those who attend our national course at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto, Canadian
officers complete ACSC at the major/lieutenant- commander rank (OF3) and upon graduating, will generally have one further staff position in rank before being promoted to lieutenant-colonel/ commander (OF4). This year’s graduates will depart
the course to be employed as the Ship Systems Engineer Manager in the Directorate of Naval Platform Systems, the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander of the Canadian Army, and Commanding Officer of the Canadian Detachment at the United States 552 Air Control Wing.
In addition to the various academic and military endeavours undertaken as part
of the curriculum, the Canadians and their families were happy to introduce their colleagues to the wonders of Moose Milk, maple syrup and poutine during the International Day event. The life-size model of our Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, was a big hit throughout the year and it is hoped that he will be returned unharmed and with minimal lipstick stains. Other highlights included the various opportunities for professional development and defence engagement. Between them this year, the Canadian students had the privilege to visit Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, Turkey, Uganda and the United States within the context of the Course’s Regional Security Exercises and Battlefield Studies. ACSC has truly provided an outstanding experience for both the Canadian students and their families.
