THIS YEAR DEFENCE ACADEMY Hockey has gone from strength to strength. It started well with a great sign up and despite some very
cold weather and busy course periods, the Club still managed a very competitive 15 games this season. Senior leadership
changed this year as the Club said farewell to outgoing Chairman Wing Cdr Nick Maxey and welcomed Cdr Roscoe Tanner at the helm.
Cdr Sean Trevethan (ACSC) was declared Club Captain and led the team to a credible five victories against some top quality opposition, opposition
that is typically beyond the level of your standard military establishment – clearly all the Academy’s
near peer adversaries were far too scared!! But the Defence Academy Hockey team were no ordinary establishment team and every match, including the one against the full REME team, was hotly competed.
Wg Cdr Jules Park, Cdr Jamie Wells, Lt Col Julia Symons, Lt Col Chris Anker, Lt Col Caroline Emmett and Lt Col James Cackett had all represented their Service at some point in their careers. These stick veterans of ACSC were bolstered with some much needed younger blood in the form of Vice Captain Maj Steve Booth and his hockey cadre from ICSC(L) forming a bedrock of experience that carried the College through the most challenging of matches.
The season also presented opportunity for some early retirees to dust off their sticks and return to form, with Cdr Milly Ingham, Sqn Ldr Jez Cooper and Wg Cdr Fred Wrigglesworth amongst those
who definitely ‘got the bug’ once more. The Club wishes to thank Lt Col (Rtd) Chris Parker who agreed to coach again this year; his sound advice and encouragement was not solely limited to the players, his assistance in running the Club having been a member himself since the late 90s was invaluable. The team are proud of this year, Defence Academy Hockey has continued to be the most inclusive Club in the AU with a zest for fun – long may it continue!
