From Afghanistan to Zambia: International Families Day

THE CACOPHONY OF MORE than 1500 people experiencing the food and culture of 60 countries lit up the JSCSC in late November
during International Families Day. An assortment of traditional dance troupes and music recitals provided a suitable accompaniment
to the many tables laden with national cuisine, regional drinks and cultural items. The highlight, of course, was the people who were exhibiting the best of their national culture. More than 100 students, instructors and their families had
worked for weeks to showcase the very best their nations have to offer. Their efforts were greatly appreciated by the very large group of staff, students and members of the Shrivenham Station who attended the event.
The food on offer ranged from interesting to exotic: from delicate Afghani desserts through to the
salty deliciousness of a Zambian barbeque. The Antipodeans catered for the carnivores in the crowd as subtle New Zealand lamb was pitted against the slightly more unusual kangaroo and crocodile on offer from the Australians. Fans of fromage were in luck, with the French happily pitting their wheels of Brie and Camembert against challengers from all across
