Europe. And the curry! Many Britons were surprised by the spice and avour of the authentic versions of their favourites from their local curry houses.
Wines from all over Europe were able to be savoured and compared to the lightness of a Bavarian lager
or the depth of a Scottish whisky. Sushi and sake proved a popular combination for Japan, while
the Spanish combined jámon, paella, sangria and amenco dancing to make a lasting impression.
The Caribbean stand was a newcomer for 2016, with students from Belize, Guyana and Jamaica providing some amazing barbecue meats with a marinade
hot enough to satisfy the most adventurous of taste buds. Witnesses report a number of unsuspecting tasters rushing along to the Canadian stand to try and get a cup of their ice cream-laced ‘Moose Milk’ to put out the re in their mouths. More important than the products on offer was the sense of friendship, mutual understanding
and cooperation that was evident at the event. It was clear to all that the rmest of bonds had been established between the foreign and domestic students through working together on this event. The 97 international students attending the Advanced Command and Staff Course provided the bulk of the workforce, but in many cases it was their partners and families who shouldered most of the burden. Thanks are more than due.
As the largest event on the College calendar it could not have occurred without the dedicated support of a number of permanent military and civilian staff, most notably the awesome Commander John Quilinan
and Ms Angie Curtis. The Committee also deserve recognition for the long hours they spent planning and coordinating the day.
In the end, the International Families Day achieved more than just providing great food and a carnival like atmosphere: it was a celebration of the common bonds forged between nations at the JSCSC.
