2022 should have seen a full return to the golf calendar with COVID restrictions being lifted. Our bi-annual events with the regimental family April was the start of the events on the calendar. Still rusty from the cold winter we had the pleasure of playing Drumoig golf course once again but with MST for B Sqn in full swing the regimental players were depleted. It was once again a great turn out from the wider family. Those who took the time in winter to practice their swing on the driving range were evident by actually playing some good golf on the day, for others it was more of hit and hope. Sgt Andy Stewart was the overall winner of the event with 38 point and Cpl Andy Linney coming in second place. Sgt Bill Whyman took the most golf prize having taken up the sport fairly recently. It was a great event and special thanks go to Billy Rait and his team for arranging the fixture and ensuring that as always it was a great day golfing.
The ABF event in Duddingston in May seen SSgt Jim Will, Cpl Eddie Miller, Cpl Spider Maule and WO1 Neil Dolan in attendance. It was good for the regiment to support a great charity and play a really good golf course. Although no prizes were won just giving support to the charity was enough and as always, a day off work playing golf is always prize enough.
The regiment and wider family have always tried their best to support Army Golf Association (Scotland). AGA(S) calendar is really important and gives members the chance to participate against the best within the AGA. Although during what has been a busy year only a few of the events have
been attended. They had their spring meet at Turnberry, a few of the regimental golfer had a chance to play a splendid course although attendance was minimal due to commitments. Kinross was the venue for the summer meet but unfortunately no one from the regiment could attend due to the MRX for Op NEWCOMBE. Deer Park in Livingston was the venue for the Autumn meet again only the odd individuals had the chance to attend due to the busy calendar. As always, the events have been diverse and challenging and we hope that 2023 will bring the same but with more regimental family players able to play. Now retired from AGA(S) the regiment would like to thank George Watson (ATU Sc) who has worked tirelessly over the years to put on these events.
The return leg of the regimental family golf day was cancelled due to the passing of our Col in Chief Queen Elizebeth II. A sad day for the regimental family.
AGA(S) finished the year with their prize giving event held at St Michael’s golf course, the regiment managed to muster a team of Capt Tam McCann, SSgt Jim Will, Cpl Eddie Miller and SSgt Ryan Humpries. Playing in Texas scramble format with 3 drives per player being required. Again we came home empty handed even though we did score well on the day. The cold time is upon us once more and for most the clubs go in the shed until the temperature rises again, but as always we look to the new year with enthusiasm for this fine sport.
