Remembrance be opened whereupon he gained entry to pay his respects.
To coincide with Remembrance week, Andy Wright and Sandy Fowler went to Ypres from 8 – 12 November. Representing the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Association, and along with Jim Smith, Ayrshire Yeomanry OCA, and Jim McMillan, The Royal Scots Fusiliers OCA they attended ceremonies at various locations including the Menin Gate to pay their respects to the fallen. The extraordinary sacrifice of those who died fighting in the two world wars certainly hit home when seeing the huge number of graves at the various locations.
The Remembrance Sunday Parade took place on 13 November at The Royal Scots Greys Monument in Princes Street Gardens. The service was conducted by Padre John Borthwick (3 Rifles) who was “recruited” at the last minute by Major Aidan Stephen. The serving regiment was represented by Staff Sergeant Sean Wright and Corporal Greig Friel, and we were
delighted once again to be joined by cadets from the Lothian and Borders Battalion Army Cadet Force under the command of Hannah Whittaker. Approximately 40 people attended the service with a large crowd of civilian spectators. Refreshments were provided afterwards at The Ukrainian Club, Royal Terrace, Edinburgh under the auspices of Mick Ostapko (ex-SCOTS DG). Mick also gave a short talk and photo display on the history of Ukraine to the cadets which was well received. Thanks are also owed to all those who assisted before, during and after the parade including Alan and Kenny Robertson for the Standard Bearing and support, the wreath carriers and wreath layers and all attendees. A special thank you to Ross Munro once more for his piping prowess!
Whilst we look forward to 2023, which we will take in our stride we remember all members and families of the Regimental Association who lost loved ones in 2022.
EAGLE AND CARBINE 79
North East of England
The North East of England Branch had a relatively quiet year. The Annual Dinner, the first in two years, went well with a total of 59 people attending. This was the first at the new venue in Doncaster. The dinner was attended by the Colonel of the Regiment, Brigadier Ben Edwards OBE; President of the Association, Colonel Charlie Lambert; Major Brett Taylor Headquarters Squadron Leader representing the Commanding Officer; and Major Jamie Erskine MBE from Home Headquarters.
Again, the Branch was well represented at the various Remembrance Day parades in the North East of England Branch area. Captain Brian Cullen and Captain Nicholas Orr were at the National Memorial

Arboretum and Saint Columba’s United Reform Church in York respectively.
With the Chairman, Nicholas Orr and the Secretary, Hovis Brown settling into the job they are looking forward to the next Annual Dinner, which will also be attended by members of the Musicians Branch.
