 Ex SNOWDONIA CADET
OCdt Peachment
The exped took an unexpected turn in the last week of planning: an additional three OCdts joined on to the expedition, bumping the total up to eight. Regardless of this, all of us left Sandhurst on the Sunday afternoon and made our way to Bangor in high spirits having just finished Intermediate Term and ready to focus on hiking the rolling landscape of Snowdon. At the spacious and, more importantly, warm Airbnb, we relied on the cooking skills of OCdt Hill to see us through our stay in Wales, fondly reminiscing over the New College food as the week went on.
We met our Instructor, Cpl Milan Tamang, a seasoned AT instructor, climber, hiker, you name it, he’s done it. We talked through the plan for the week, and what we wanted to get out of our experience. We hadn’t put much thought into it before now and, after some brainstorming, knew we wanted what anyone would want: good experiences, to learn more about AT, and to climb Snowdon.
Our first day revolved around exactly the last point: we had Snowdon ahead of us, planned out, and our group raring to go. After an ardu- ous but exhilarating climb, we finished for the day and planned out the rest of our time in a similar fashion. It was a healthy mixture of climbing, navigating, and enjoying all the sights that Wales had to offer. An amazing way to end the term and really dig our teeth into something different.
We slept off the week’s work on the Thursday night, and on the Friday had our close down talk with Milan. We talked through again what we had wanted to achieve, and then what we had achieved. Not a single thing was left on the whiteboard, which meant we had done everything we wanted to, and the sense of fulfilment hit home. We finished the expedi- tion on a high, heading our separate ways on leave having completed an amazing AT pack- age, with an incredible group, an excellent instructor, and memories we will carry for life.

12th December – Route Out
At precisely an hour and a half after the time we were meant to be ready, we left RMAS bright eyed and bushy tailed, loaded up with provisions and ready for the arduous week of hill walking that had been promised to us, with the equally arduous set of extracurricular activities prom- ised to us by Sendall, a platoon mate who had attended university in Sheffield.
