Obituaries 15/19H
Council and was elected to Durham County Council. He was a regular attender with his wife Jean at the NW Branch din- ner in Liverpool who he leaves behind as well as other family members.
Mr J Callaghan
Served: 1971-75. Died: 17 Feb 21
47. During his time with the Regiment he served in Sudan, Egypt and Jordan and was awarded the General Service Medal with Palestine Clasp and the Defence Medal. After completing his service he left the army and returned to civi street in Jun 48. Robert never forgot his time with the Regiment and his coffin was adorned by the 15/19H flag and forage cap.
We were informed by David’s great nephew Mark that he had died sud- denly at home aged 85 years of age. David was one of tri- plets sadly only 2 survived. His play- ground as a child was the bombed building
Northern Ireland he was employed as a driver and later as a storeman issuing vehi- cles. It was whilst serving in Northern Ireland that he decided to leave the army and settled back in Ashington, Northumberland. He was a keen model aeroplane enthusiast. John leaves behind 3 sons, one of which Mark joined the Regiment in the 1980’s.
Mr W W Nash
Served:1947-52 Died: 25 Feb 21
We were only informed after the fact by his son Ivan that Willis had died. After com- pleting his basic training Willis joined the Regiment in Khartoum, Sudan in 1948. He attained the rank of Corporal and also saw service in Egypt and Germany. Willis also spent 9 months on attachment at Warcop Camp and left the army in 1952 after com- pleting 4 years.
Mr D J Wilson
Served: 1946-74 Died: 21 Mar 21
We were only informed at a later date that Donovan had died in a care home in Andover aged 92 years of age. Donovan enlisted into the army in 1946 and after completing his basic training joined the Regiment at Gedera in Palestine. During his time in the army he also saw service in Sudan, Egypt, Jordan, Germany, Malaya and Northern Ireland. He completed twenty seven and a half years service and attained the rank of WO2. His last appoint- ment in the Regiment was Headquarters Squadron Sergeant Major before he went on to serve on the Long Service List until he retired from the army in 1977.
Mr T Maule
Served: 1966-69 Died: 18 Mar 21
We were informed by Trevor’s step son Anthony that he had sadly died aged 76 years of age. After basic training he joined the Regiment in Munster, Germany and served for 3 years attaining the rank of LCpl before deciding to leave the army.
Mr P J Jones
Served: 1956-65 Died: 10 Jan 21
in Liverpool during WW2. He left school at 15 and joined the local water board. At the age of 18 he was called up to complete his National Service and completed his training at Hadrian’s Camp, Carlisle. After training he was posted to Malaya to join the Regiment. He embarked on the “Empire Clyde” and whilst waving to the family at the dockside his cap flew off and landed in the Mersey. He enjoyed his time in Malaya particularly the bananas and pineapples. Had the Regiment stayed in Malaya however he decided to leave the army returning to Liverpool where he rejoined the Water Board. Bananas and pineapples were still on his shopping list until he died. He was a kind, funny and generous person and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Mr P Alexander
Served: 1966-73 Died: 1 Feb 21
We were informed by Gally’s son Brendan that he had sadly died aged 74 years of age. Gally as he was known in the Regiment joined the Regiment after com- pleting his basic training in 1966 in Munster and was in
B Sqn. He also saw service in Northern Ireland with C Sqn. He was a “character” in the Regiment and went up and down the ranks. After leaving the Regiment he worked on the oil rigs and had his own shop fitting business and did well. He was the treasurer of the North East Branch for a number of years and would carry the cash and the receipt in a shoe box as he had a dislike for banks. He was a regular attender at Sahagun until ill health stopped him attending and he will be missed by his family and friends.

At 15 Peter joined the army for 3 years with the Junior Leader Regiment at Bovington in Dorset – he became Drum Major and led the regimen- tal band to win many competitions in Brighton and Dorchester. His speciality was to throw the Mace over the telegraph wire and catch it again whilst marching. In 1959 he joined the Regiment in Omagh and after a few months in Ireland he was stationed in Barnard Castle where he met his wife Jean at the YMCA. He moved with the regiment to Germany in 1962 return- ing on the 4 Apr 63 to marry Jean before completing his army service at Rheindahlen as a physical training instruc- tor. Leaving the army in 1965 he settled at Gainford managing television shops. He also owned a taxi business as well as an auction house. In 1972 with his bother-in- law David they bought Station Taxis. In 1979 he set up the Auction Hall in Blackwellgate and thereafter as an antique dealer enjoying meeting many interesting customers.
Peter always had an interest in politics and he was elected to Darlington Borough
