Exercise Northern Elephants Rumble, B Squadron Adventure Training
In July 2021, B Sqn travelled to the Lake District to take part in a multi-activity adventure training package of rock climb- ing, mountaineering and mountain bik- ing. This was the first opportunity for B Sqn to get away together in between readiness commitments, ROG and Covid restrictions in 2021. The aim was to pro- vide participants with an insight into the opportunities available to them within the JSAT schemes along with some much- needed logbook experience and continu- ation training for AT leaders. It provided an opportunity to develop leadership, physical and moral courage, teamwork and fitness.
40 personnel from B Sqn spent their time enjoying the warm summer days in the pic- turesque Lake District and evenings in the slightly less appealing setting of Warcop Camp. A large gas leak at Halton Camp meant a last-minute change of venue but the planning team and both camps worked hard to make the transition appear seam- less to the participants.
The first day out in the Lakes brought with it rain, halting the planned outdoor climbing extravaganza for Sgt Sudlow and Cpl Price. However, due to their combined experience and thorough recce, they were
able to take their groups to Kendal Indoor climbing wall. The first group of climbers had an easy day indoors with brews and cakes just a few steps away at all times; lucky them! MTB leaders took great pleas- ure in having a muddy and wet day of rid-
ing, what better way to enjoy the free phys! The mountaineering group took a steep sided accent in the fog up the corridor to Scafell Pike. Cpl Hodson and 2Lt Castle seized the opportunity to introduce less experienced members to the finer details
