WHAT’S ON
In and Around Thrapston
Being part of the Thrapston
community is important to us and
we were pleased to support the
Charter Fair, providing refreshments
in the Plaza. To celebrate National
Thankyou Day on 7th July, we
decided to recognise the hard work the Town Council and their staff put into making Thrapston such a wonderful place to live. Being the WI, we did this in the traditional way, and gifted them a lovely cake baked by one of our members.
Looking ahead to our next meetings, in August we have our annual fish and chip supper and social, and in September we will be having a Doodle Clocks craft activity. We will also be taking part in the Thrapston Town Quiz on 31st August.
As well as our monthly meetings, our enthusiastic skittles team is going from strength to strength, meeting every other Wednesday at Islip WMC, start time 7.30pm. Our walking group also continues to meet regularly,
whatever the weather. We are planning a variety of trips, inlcuding Stamford and Stratford Upon Avon, and outings such as pottery painting at Stanwick Lakes. Our members also take part in trips and events organised by our county office.
All meetings take place in the Thrapston Baptist Church, and we meet on the first Thursday of the month. Meetings start at 7.30pm and visitors are always welcome. Entrance is £5, which includes refreshments. It would be lovely to meet you, so please come along and say hello.
Summer Reading Challenge 2024 – Marvellous Makers. The challenge will start on Saturday 20th July and will run until the end of September.
Children, aged 4-12 years old, are challenged to read or listen to six books over the summer. These can be physical books, eBooks, Audiobooks or eAudiobooks. They can be library books but any children’s book will be accepted, however the child must be a member of the library service to take part. Resources will be available in Thrapston Library for the launch and are for children aged 4-12 years old only.
They are not suitable for younger children. If children under 4 years old want to be challenged they can take part in the Bookstart Bear Club or this year there will be a challenge, similar to the Summer Reading Challenge specially formulated for Preschool aged children.
There are lots of accompanying puzzles
and competitions included in the pack and
the popular Treasure Hunts have returned
too. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the challenge for all competitions held. Details can be found in the library.
