The Ypres battlefield tour was organised by the London Branch of the RGJ
association but did see several RIFLES veterans in attendance too. The four-day tour
was expertly hosted and provided a superb insight into the significant commitment
by our antecedent regiments throughout this sustained and bloody series of battles.
Whilst travelling through the Ypres salient, you cannot help but notice large and
small collections of white war grave headstones, knowing that each site was the
reminder of fierce engagements carried out over a hundred years ago. The evening
provided a great opportunity and privilege to lay a RIFLES wreath at Menin Gate in
what was a very moving ceremony, played in by the bagpipes.
