Throughout the autumn COVID-19 continued to rule our existence and wiped out
most face to face activity with the local authorities, agencies, communities and ACF organisations.
Although ACF and CCF units resumed a small amount of training in the London area no Rifles support was requested as most of the training locations are cramped and made social distancing difficult.
Ceremonial events such as Mayor making which is usually a valuable event to make contact with the local community leaders were relegated to rather impersonal ZOOM conferences.
In November the Field of Remembrance at Westminster was reduced to three participants per regimental plot for the opening ceremony. Our Colonel-in-Chief, dressed in Rifle Green and wearing a Rifles Brooch, formally opened
the event and took the opportunity to talk to our representative, Col John Cummings, at the Rifles plot.
For Remembrance 2021 at the Cenotaph, although scaled down, we again, sadly, did not achieve our quota of participants.
Sadly, the loss of 4 RIFLES to the RANGERS
has depleted the London area of valuable regulars in the ongoing and important field of community relations and support for the ACF especially at ACF Summer Camps.
Not a year any of us wish to see repeated thus we look forward to 2022 with optimism. J-D v M
