AGC(SPS) Detachment
Capt Simon Foster
A challenging but rewarding year, spread far and wide. The Detachment has endured a prolonged period, operating in demanding conditions all over the world but always looking for opportunities to enjoy an enhanced lived experience.
There have been several opportunities this year for the Detachment to compete in team events starting with the Triple Crown Competition. The Military Skills team for
1 MERCIAN in this year’s Triple Crown consisted of Cpl Jemma Rosier, LCpls Darrel Lobo, Conroy Davis and LCpl Mark Sheldon as the Team Captain. After limited build up training, due to heavy routine commitment, we came together well as body and got each other around the course registering a very impressive 6th place finish from a field of 150 teams. This was achieved through sheer determination, teamwork and grit.
The Detachment enjoyed further success at the 1 Brigade AGC sports day. The day consisted of a football competition, an assault course and a variety of challenges and races culminating in a tug of war event. Being the competitive Detachment that we are, we went into this looking the part and with all guns blazing. The Detachment were unbeaten in both the football and the tug
of war competitions which ensured victory overall.
Cpl Niall Devlin was fortunate enough to go on an arduous ‘high risk ’expedition where he was able to trek the world- renowned Everest 3 High Passes route. The route included cultural visits and tours of Katmandu. The ultimate end goal for the expedition was Everest Base Camp at 5365m above sea level.
LCpl Prembahadur Gurung has enjoyed representing the AGC in Cricket this season.
