                                MODERN OPERA
Hardship, love and betrayal
Audiences are welcome to attend the premiere of this contemporary opera with music by Jon Graham and libretto by Nigel Gibbons. The opera is set in current times, sung in English and classical in style. It will be performed with an orchestra under the experienced direction of Kate Wishart.
The principal soloists are Liz Williams (Anya), Lydia Montgomery (Thalia), Joseph Gawley (Mark), Jane Route (Alexa), Martin Muir (Boronouski).
The story follows the fortunes of a gang of East European, mainly Ukrainian, migrant vegetable pickers on a remote farmland in the Fens, Lincolnshire where one of the pickers falls in love with a local English farm worker. Passions are roused leading to violent conflict with the Russian gang master revealing long- hidden secrets from the past.
The opera is in one act with a duration of approximately I hour and 45 minutes which includes a short introductory talk and interval.
