they did last year, to attract attention and questions. Thank you to all the volunteers supporting the DA display, bringing themselves and produce. Look out for updates on our Facebook page for the display.
The DA is gearing up for a season of talks which starts in September 2023 through to April 2024. Some good suggestions from Members so far – bee keeping, growing perennials, garden pests, willow weaving, quiz and growing year- round in a polytunnel, we’ve got Accrington Bonsai Society, John Soulsby and Stephen Lowe who we had to cancel early this year due to the weather. Keep an eye out for more definite details.

At our June meeting we had Geoff Wilson attending, his talk was Invading The Root Zone. This was a really interesting talk about
not using chemicals and using alternative ways to keep the plants healthy.
In July we had a social evening with our treasurer John Smiles showing us how to stage sweet peas and roses, there were only 14 people who attended the meeting. Before John’s talk I asked the people present why we were not getting the people through the door like
we did pre pandemic. The people had their say and were listened to and the conclusion was to suspend our monthly meetings for the near future and to have an early AGM in October or November 2023 to see where we go.
On a more positive note, the DA will be attending the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show in September at Newby Hall. We will once again be doing our stand with vegetables and trying to go one better than last year where we got a Silver Gilt.
Our DA Show will be held at Paxton Hall on Saturday 23rd September 2023, which is still up for sale, where you can show veg, dahlias, chrysanthemums and pot plants.
On Father’s Day I attended
an open garden at Methley, The Yorkshire Delphinium Cottage,
this is a private collection built up over 45 years of growing with 90 varieties on show that day. With half the proceeds going to a cancer charity here are three photos of the day.
