At our last meeting held in May we had a lecture given by local horticulturist Reg Moule who can be heard regularly on Hereford and Worcester local radio. His lecture was all about modern pests and diseases, and he revealed that more and more problems are being caused by the ever-increasing global temperatures and with almost all fungicides and chemicals now being banned. So, he detailed a more modern approach to combating pests and diseases. His lecture was welcomed by all who were present.
In mid-June we hosted a stand at Gardeners World Live at the NEC in Birmingham. The stand displayed some unusual plants with a total display of 70-80 plants grown by members. Our members and my wife not only helped arrange the display on the Tuesday and Wednesday but also manned the stand whilst the show was open for four days. Our display received many nice comments from people attending the show and we sold at reasonable prices over 700 vegetable plants including over 100 tomato, 100 sweet corn, 100 runner
beans along with herbs, perennial vegetable plants and cucumbers, courgettes and climbing and dwarf bean plants plus many others. I would like to express my thanks for the following people for assisting, Wendy Brickstock-my wife, Anna Brickstock-my daughter, Albert Walker, Peter Chamberlain, Betty Garbutt and partner David along with John Boswell and his wife Valerie without whom we would not have achieved the excellent results we have along with a record sales to finance our meetings.
