Cpl Subin Rai – Gurkha Syndicate Leader
Gurkha CIC. The Gurkha CIC delivered at ITC (C) differs from the standard 26-week course. It is 42 weeks long and encompasses 8 additional weeks of education, such as language, cultural education, numeracy and literacy. For the past 10 years, Cpl Subin Rai has been the Gurkha syndicate leader. He has been instrumental in the success of all PD delivery on the Gurkha CIC. In his time at ITC (C) he has seen a total of 10 intakes, totalling over two and a half thousand recruits.

Over the past 12 months, Adventurous Training (AT) within the services has taken a major setback due to Covid-19 and Government restrictions. However, this
has not stopped the team from delivering at SDW(H). During Lockdown 1 the team worked endlessly with the Blue Dot Contractors and the local National Parks to ensure all mitigating factors and safety measures were covered and in place to ensure training returned as quickly and safely as possible. On the 6th June 2020, training was back in full swing with over 100 recruits being introduced to AT from the ITC where they would participate in Climbing and Navigation days in the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.
During this time with races also being cancelled, Q Mills set himself a challenge of completing the Paddy Buckley Round. 100km taking in 47 peaks around Snowdonia with 28,000ft of elevation.
He set off at 0400 on 22nd August 2020 from Llanberis in persistent rain and 50+mph winds. He managed to get around the route in 24hrs 41mins with the support from WO2 (QMSI) Rob Davies to keep him company on the last 2 legs.
