   INFANTRY TRAINING CENTRE (CATTERICK)
Sgt (SI) D Sansom RAPTC
As a newly badged RAPTCI I was assigned to the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) as a Syndicate Leader, and the lead RAPTCI for the 1st Infantry Training Battalion (1 ITB). My main roles include the management of 19 AAPTIs, overseeing the delivery of the Combat Infantry Course PD Programme and the daily duties of an RAPTCI for 1 ITB. A very demanding yet rewarding assignment, I would highly recommend this for a first post.
CIC 21 - PT Programme. As I arrived at the ITC the PD Programme being delivered to the Recruits was still that of the CIC 18, although this programme was affective in its output and reduced the number of Muscular Skeletal Injuries (MSKI) to the Recruits, it was time for an update. With the advancements in Physical Training and the British Army using a more scientific approach to Physical Training, WO2 (QMSI) Watson spent countless hours designing the CIC 21 Programme. The transition to the CIC 21 PD Programme was designed around the APTS and reducing junk mileage to lower the risk of MSKI. The Recruits do not place a foot on the training area until week 6 of training, prior to this they complete 9 Strength and Conditioning lessons over a 5-week period aimed to teach them how to move correctly and safely when conducting the basic compound lifts and the 7 Foundation Movement Patterns, improve aerobic endurance and addressing postural issues, all aimed to reduce the risk of MSKI. January 2022 saw the first Company of Recruits under the CIC 21 programme successfully pass out of the ITC without any reports of MSKI’s and passing the RFT(S) without any failures.
Commendations and Awards. There have been several awards given within our Department at the ITC including 2 x
Commandant’s Coins. The first was awarded to Cpl Dhan, Cpl Dhan is the lead AAPTI for the Gurkha Company. His award was given to him for his hard work and commitment to the Gurkha CIC programme. The second was given to Sgt (SI) Sansom for the overall improvement of Service Personnel’s health and wellbeing pan ITC, reducing the VHR category from 76 to 34 in 10 months. WO2 (QMSI) Mills was awarded the RAPTC Association Rodgers Trophy for his outstanding contributions to Adventurous Training throughout the pandemic.
Annual Charity Boxing Night. On 11 November 2021 the ITC hosted its Annual Night of Boxing, the evening saw 8 hard fought bouts between the British Army Boxing Team and Scotland National Boxing Team. This was the first big event of 2021 for over 2yrs since the start of the Pandemic, with sport beginning to return to what seems like normality. This spectacular event was certainly the highlight of the year, SSgt (SSI) Mayhew organised this fantastic event and raised £7000, with Standing Tall and Healthier Heroes Charities each receiving £3500.
RAPTC Dinner Night. A historical moment for the RAPTC when the ITC hosted the first Dinner night held in the North of England. The Annual Dinner night is traditionally held at the RAPTC Mess in Aldershot. However, following the Corps Sergeant Major’s Climate Assessment it was expressed that the RAPTCIs in the Northern Region and Scotland would like a Dinner Night in the North. The evening was a huge success, it was coupled with dining out 4 x RAPTCIs and gave the Corps Sergeant Major the opportunity to deliver several awards. Due to the positive feedback from all that attended it is likely the UK North Dinner Night will become an annual event.
