LIFE AS A REGULAR SERVING WITH THE RESERVES ARMY TRAINING REGIMENT GRANTHAM
WO2 (QMSI) L Haslam RAPTC
Army Training Regiment Grantham is located on Grantham Station within Prince William of Gloucester Barracks. The Unit’s primary role is the delivery of Phase 1 Training to Reserve Recruits following the CMS21 program via three separate Modular Courses including distance learning. So far this year the Unit have delivered 26 separate courses and supported Reserve Recruits throughout their distance learning journey. Considering the Unit’s strength is just over 100 with over two thirds being FTRS, NRPS and Reserves, providing the support and current successful recruit output is impressive. I have witnessed some incredible and dedicated Reserve Soldiers and Officers that have gone above and beyond to support this delivery which has come with many challenges.
Additionally, to support Phase 1 Reserve Recruit Training the gymnasium team comprising of 4 PTIs also provide PD outputs to HQ 102 Log Bde, 2 Operational Support Group, 167 Catering Support Group RLC and Grantham Station Support Unit. The gymnasium and facilities are used for many external sporting events and courses such as the Corps Badminton Championships, Army Volleyball and Army FA Reserve Referee Courses. The sporting events were compromised over the winter months due to a broken heating system causing the main hall flooring to pop. Torrential rain caused a spectacular waterfall through the roof into the CV suite and weights area. Thankfully the leaking is now fixed with a rather expensive temporary heating measure in place! Grantham Station is definitely unique with many interesting challenges. I certainly look forward to the year ahead.
