Ash Wednesday (2nd March) starts a period of time known as LENT when we pause to reflect and prepare to celebrate Jesus’ Resurrection
at Easter (17th April). This year we will be running a LENT course in St James Church
at 6.30pm on Sunday evenings from 6th March – 10th April. Please check the website tdichurches.co.uk for up to date information.
Why not join us on Mothering Sunday?
This is a time in Lent to break from ‘fasting’ and to celebrate mothers with flowers in church and Simnel cake or fresh bread baked especially for the occasion. From the sixteenth century it has been a day that required people to return to their home ‘mother’ church to make it a true family honoured occasion. The gatherings reunited families and gave children who worked as domestic servants, or as apprentices away from home the opportunity to have the day off to join their family and see their own mother. We can’t guarantee Simnel cake but you can be assured of a warm welcome at any of our services.
