Waterloo CABRIT
This year Waterloo 209 was celebrated
by the regiment in 2 separate locations.
The traditional celebration took place in
Robertson Barracks and an additional
celebration took place in Elk, Poland. B
SQN Seniors and Officers came together
on Op CABRIT to continue our 209-year
tradition of two messes coming together
to dine and compete at Rugby Volleyball.
The day started with a volleyball tour-
nament where the Seniors were hustled
by Lt Col Kierstead who arrived in MTP
and opened with “how do we play Volley-
ball”. No shorter than 3 minutes later the
CO was seen spiking balls aggressively
towards the senior’s team and was by
far the Officers leading scorer. Unfortu-
nately, due to this ungentlemanly tactic,
the Seniors took many losses, and the
Officers took the Thomas Barlow Volley-
ball certificate.
After refreshments the Officers and
Seniors dined together in an old, restored
Prussian Barn in Elk. The venue was
the perfect setting for the evening. The
regimental dinner night was executed
immaculately by the stand in mess
manager for the evening Cpl Donna-
chie. Skits continued and speeches
were read to remind mess members of
the importance of the dinner night. The
evening almost took a turn when Capt
Clark decided that he had memorised his
speech and did not need the aide of his

printed sheet. He decided to burn it on
a candle and leave it on the table while
he completed his speech. It was a great
performance, but only 50% correct. After
putting out his smouldering table he was
applauded by all, minus the owner of the
300-year-old barn!
The evening was then finished off with
a game of cornhole, Polish cheese and
port. The Seniors quickly regained their
credibility by thrashing the officers at
cornhole. I am still unsure if this is due to
the Seniors ability to play cornhole or the
fact that some of their key players had
written themselves off at dinner!
