The QDG had the honour to host
Colonel Vlodomyr from the Ukrainian
Armed Forces, and Brigadier David
Glendenning, who awarded the KCM
to those who had earned it in 2023.
Extract from Col Vlodomyr’s speech:
“Steel is forged in fire, and warriors
are forged in battle. In the darkest
of moments, we hold the line for
each other – not just as soldiers,
but as brothers and sisters who
refuse to break.”
The Brigade Commander awarded
KCMs and Long Service and Good
Conduct medals to those on the
parade. It was freezing cold, but a
proud moment for many. His speech
conveyed the true fulfilment of
professional soldiering by all.
“We aren’t no thin red ‘eroes, nor
we aren’t no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most
remarkable like you;
An’ if sometimes our conduck isn’t
all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don’t
grow into plaster saints.”
