Thrapston Plaza Opera ...........................................................
On stage or behinds the scenes Vincent Davy explains
Thrapston Plaza Opera was founded by Vincent Davy in 2010 with its first production being a performance of Bizet’s ‘Carmen’ in February 2011.
The aim is to present a good quality production for and involving the local community. Soloists sometimes come from further afield but most of the chorus are locally based. Children are recruited from local schools to take part if required. All operas are sung in English accompanied by an orchestra of experienced players.
Operas are staged in Thrapston Plaza and we hope to offer audiences a chance to experience grand opera at affordable prices.
So far we have staged ‘Carmen’, ‘The Bartered Bride’, ‘Aida’, ‘Die Fledermaus’, ‘Madame Butterfly’, ‘La Vie Parisienne’, ‘Eugene Onegin’, ‘La Traviata’ and ‘The Daughter of the Regiment’.
To celebrate the tenth opera, the company will again be staging ‘Carmen’ in The Plaza on 18th, 20th, 21st and 22nd February 2020.
Following auditions held in June the principal roles are now cast and we are looking forward to starting rehearsals on Tuesday 17th September from 7.30pm –
9.30pm in St James Church Hall, Thrapston. Chorus members are not auditioned and everyone is welcome to come along to our
first rehearsal to discover what’s involved. Music reading is not essential and it doesn’t matter if you haven’t sung in a chorus before – you will be made very welcome.
Singing not for you? Then how about helping with costumes, scenery, publicity, front of house, marketing? There will be something for everyone.
