St Nicholas Church, Islip.......................................................
Flowers and wedding dresses at St Nicholas Church brought
joy to people from near and far
The weekend of 5-7th of July witnessed the church resplendent with flowers worthy of any wedding and a magnificent display of shimmering wedding dresses dating from 1940 to two worn at weddings in June 2019. There were examples of dresses from each decade in between. Every dress was very different but the change of fashions over time was clearly evident. Dresses were enhanced by the addition of shoes and photographs of the bride on her wedding day alongside.
There was a happy atmosphere throughout the weekend as people came to visit the festival from across the county and in some cases had travelled much further. It was a pleasure to welcome you all and hear of your connections with the church in many instances.

I would like to express grateful thanks to all the ladies who generously donated their dresses for this event – it would not have happened without you. I am sorry for not being able to accept other dresses offered but realistically more could not have been displayed appropriately.
Thanks also to: the staff of Gowns
and Garters in Thrapston for the loan of mannequins and advice on display, Adi Pendred for the signs and last minute help, Inkwell Printing for the speed at which
they produced the brochures and finally
to the people behind the scenes who arranged flowers, served copious amounts of refreshments and washed up. Your contributions were so appreciated.
The festival closed with a short service of songs and praise for love and marriage attended by about 40 people.
