 Clwyd and Gwynedd ACF
Clwyd and Gwynedd ACF have two detachments that are proudly affiliated with 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards - Mold and Porthmadog detachments.
In May Porthmadog Detachment had an interesting visit from Sergeant Scott Grills and Trooper Brown. The cadets took part in a team building exercise, which not only helped their communi- cation skills but also their fitness as the forfeit was push-ups, although this ended up with lots of laughing. Afterwards Sgt Grills and Trooper Brown set up a basher then demonstrated, explained and challenged the cadets to put one up in preparation for a forthcoming Company fieldcraft weekend.
The highlight of the year was summer camp in Swynnerton where cadets from across North Wales enjoyed two weeks of great activities including visits to the National Memorial Arboretum and Alton Towers.
Matteo Molica-Franco from the Mold Detachment has had another rewarding year including being appointed the Cadet RSM and representing the detach- ment on Exercise KwaZulu Natal Draig the all-Wales visit to South Africa. We are grateful to the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess for their contribution to the significant cost of the trip. Matteo, as part of the follow-up reporting, also took part in a briefing to the distin- guished delegates at the Reserve and Cadet Forces for Wales Annual Briefing in Cardiff.
Several instructors attended a 160 (Welsh) Brigade ACF conference where one of the speakers on leadership was WO1 David Chant who had visited detachments when he was RSM.
Both detachments took part in Remembrance Sunday parades and Mold was delighted to welcome several QDG veterans.
