led exercise of the year and centres on dismounted core reconnaissance activ- ities: Infiltration, area reconnaissance, ambush, raids, and exfiltration. Most of these activities take place on public and private land outside the military training areas. In doing so the Battalion can use the islands particular natural features for training purposes such as rappelling, land navigation and obstacle crossing in unknown terrain rather than trudging around within the confines of the well- known military training areas.
The only activity we
could not place in civilian
terrain was the raid. The
raid was carried out at night
as a live fire exercise using the troops’ organic weapons, live explo- sives and a variety of pyrotechnics.
As we enter 2024 we are currently preparing our 1st and 2nd Squadrons for participation in Exercise ALLIED SPIRIT ’24 in Germany, Exercise SPRING STORM in Estonia, participation in Exercise CAMBRIAN PATROL, standing
to as national response force and deploying a troop to Estonia as part of a Jutland Dragoons Regiment battlegroup within the frame-
work of NATO reassurance measures. We look forward to another year with challenges, opportunities and strength- ened cooperation with our allies and
partners in the U.K.
