The waiter smiled as he poured the wine and waited for Marjorie’s approval. ‘Perfect, thank you. Now then, what do you have to tell me?’
‘It’s a mystery and I know you are brilliant at solving them. Cara and Elise are being followed.’ Alice went on to tell Marjorie about the boy in the town centre and what happened afterwards.
‘When Cara described him to me, I nearly died. You remember what happened to Robin and those boys in Nestonbrook? Well, one of them has turned up here, in Rauston Quay.’
‘Why? Has he moved here with his parents?’ asked Marjorie, nodding her approval to the waiter. ‘May I have some mayonnaise, please. This is delightful. How’s your salmon?’
‘Gorgeous! Where did I get to? Ah, yes. We thought he was alone but a friend of Cara’s saw him with his mother outside Brook Marshall’s bookshop. They appeared to argue, and the boy walked away. Sophie, Cara’s friend’s sister, followed her to the bus station. The woman got on the Bay Park bus and Sophie sat behind her. She took loads of photos and sent some to me. One was of her going into the rear of the apartments.’
‘No!’ corrected Marjorie firmly. ‘Residents never, ever use the rear access; they go in the front entrance and take the lift to their floor. That door is only used to access the rubbish bins.’
