‘Stop worrying, Grandma. I’ll look on the school website or Twitter to find out what’s happened. I might see you in the morning, Elise. Call you later, bye.’
It wasn’t normal for Alice to leave the girls alone at home, though it would probably be fine, but today was different and unexpected. Cara was a sensible girl and would probably spend the next hour speaking to her friends or texting them.
Turning to Elise she said: ‘Right! Let’s get you home now. I expect Mum has had another hectic day with your baby brother. I do hope the garage will bring her car back today.’
