arrival and as he walked towards them, Alice and Kay held out their hands to greet him.
‘I’m pleased to see you both. I’m afraid when I arrived I’d forgotten you lived here. In fact, I’d forgotten Rauston Quay.’
‘That’s not good,’ laughed Kay. ‘We have the best seaside resort on the south coast.’
‘So I’ve discovered. This afternoon, Marjorie took me on a harbour cruise and then we had a cream tea in the museum. I thought she was joking when she said the train ran through the town and then I watched it,’ Alan said, smiling.
‘We are being summoned. Marjorie is waving a tea towel,’ laughed Stuart, pointing. ‘It’s much more refined than banging a gong.’
After a delicious meal, they went into a lounge full of family photographs and Kay stared at the grand piano. ‘Didn’t Marjorie used to teach piano lessons? Does she still play?’
‘She certainly does,’ beamed Stuart. ‘We tried to get Alice to learn but she was overtaken by your father.’
‘Our dad played the piano?’ said Kay, frowning.
With a simpering grin and raised eyebrows, her mum said: ‘There’s a lot more you don’t know about your father.’
Stuart coughed to clear his throat and suggested it was time to get down to business. ‘Kay, considering your daughter was the first to see Jake, would you like to begin?’
