‘Hey! Elise! We’re going to see where Killjoy lives – fantastic!’
‘Guess what, Grandma. The police visited the school this morning and spoke to Miss Kilroy. Soon after, she went home. Everyone went wild trying to guess why they wanted her,’ laughed Elise. ‘Do you know what it’s about?’
‘Me! No, but I expect we’ll find out from your dad,’ lied Alice. ‘I heard that Jake is going to live with his father in Scotland. Did your mum tell you, Cara?’
‘Yes, and I told Elise.’
Parking outside the apartments, the girls got out of the car and Cara opened the boot. ‘These are pretty flowers, Grandma. Do you want your handbag?’
‘No, leave it there. We won’t be long.’ They walked across the car park to the front entrance and Elise pressed the security button, number eleven.
‘Hello, Helen. It’s Alice Henderson and my granddaughters. May we come in?’
A voice replied, ‘Hello, push the door.’ The door clicked, and they went into the foyer where the girls admired the decor. ‘Wow! Elise, look at those chairs,’ grinned Cara. ‘We need the top floor,’ said Alice, pressing the lift button.

Helen welcomed the guests. ‘Oh, you shouldn’t have, Alice, but thank you. They’re beautiful and I love carnations. Come in, please. Constance is having a nap in her room. Would you like a cup of tea?’
