Matters of the Mind and Body
Be still, for your mind deserves it. How does one accomplish the stillness of the mind, a place in which transient attention demanding activities are brought to a halt?
If we briefly consider the varying ways in which we communicate, verbal, text, body language and sounds (music) etc... they all have at least one thing in common, they all use punctuation. A way in which spaces of time are created to aid communication, thus enabling us all to comprehend that which is being conveyed. Without punctuation all these forms of communication would be at the least be difficult to understand or more likely incomprehensible. How does one begin to bring our minds to rest?
If we recognise and understand why punctuation is essential for effective communication, then why could these principles not be used in our daily activities. Thus, creating spaces (if only
brief) to allow our minds to settle and reflect on what has just happened. Giving our mind time to come to a
rest. Punctuating our days activities enables us to give our attention to that which presents itself now. Treating each means as ends in themselves, elevates each task to be worthy and valued. By becoming more discerning about our life’s choices we can allow our mind to be calm.
