finishers. However, more recently I tend to find myself on the RIB, laying marks and re-laying marks, when the wind decides to shift ten minutes before the start. Barrelling
off around Southampton Water is a highly recommended way of blowing away the cobwebs on a cold and frosty Sunday morning.
Racing is held throughout the year, and we are always looking for more members
to come and help continue our tradition of running high quality races. You do not need to have any specific racing experience, as
the more experienced members will always be on hand to help you get up to speed.
The club usually arranges a training day
in February and other training is held as needed. Race management is not all hard work. There is always some time for chatting, or a hot drink or snack from the snack box onboard. When the boats are safely tied
up after racing, a debrief and a natter in a nearby watering hole is usually in order.
As well as the club’s own events, RSYC
is one of nine clubs which are part of the Cowes Week Regatta. In recent years, RSYC have been asked to run races for some of the “white fleet” of sports boats. Being a part
of the premier sailing event is a highlight of the year. The Hound and both RIBs will be out on the water for the week running our races, with a visit into Cowes after racing
each day to soak up some of the Cowes Week atmosphere before returning to Southampton.
If you think you may be interested in joining us, please contact Lisa Topley, our Sailing Secretary, via sailing@rsyc.org.uk, who will be delighted to help you get involved, and we look forward to welcoming you onto the team.
