stall holder bookings and raffle ticket sales. All of which are very much appreciated.
Anything new for this year? This year, we have further road closures up to Market Road on Huntingdon Road and up to the Coop
on Oundle Road. There will be a classic car exhibition, a mini train ride (Lindsey is very excited), a circus workshop and a magician. The fair rides are popular, so we will keep some of the mini rides, plus we will have a rodeo bull, a fun house and an inflatable maze in The Plaza!
What’s the best thing about it being in Thrapston? Thrapston is a such a friendly town with a supportive community, whatever event is put on, come rain or shine. It brings the whole community together and it really does have something for all ages. It also brings visitors to the town, so they can see what a great place it is!
Most challenging moment? That was last year in 2021. With the ongoing pandemic
and restrictions in place, we didn’t know if
we could or if we should put a fair on. We certainly couldn’t do our usual date at the end of June, but with the tough times everybody was
going through, we wanted to do something to bring people together, while also being Covid safe. With certain restrictions being lifted, we decided on the date of 11th September, and we organised the whole fair in eight weeks! It was a challenge, but it was worth every effort.
What is the best thing about the fair? The excitement of Charter Fair day after all the planning, bringing up to 4000 people to the town, seeing everyone enjoying themselves and having that party atmosphere.
Something people don’t know about the fair? The whole fair is organised by our dedicated committee of volunteers who are either retired or have full time jobs!
If money was no object, what would you add to the day? Free rides every year!
Any future ambitions? Our aim is to keep the fair running and put on the best day we can.
What brings you joy? After the fair has ended and we’ve just finished the clean up, seeing everyone come together and have fun. The joy of realising that we did it, we made it happen! www.thrapstoncharterfair.co.uk
