                                BROWNIES
protecting the countryside
Both the Brownies and the Guides have been busy planting trees at Barnwell Country Park in celebration of the parks 50th birthday and as part of the Queen’s Green
Canopy. The trees they planted included three aspen (populus tremula), two English oak (quercus robin) and one sessile oak (quercus petraea).
As members of Girl Guiding we promise to ‘serve the queen and our community’ as part of
our promise and feel this was a fitting way to honour our Queen, Queen Elizabeth II as she celebrates her Platinum Jubilee. Both units of
girls are passionate about caring for our environment and ensuring the world is protected for future generations and were proud and excited to be planting trees for everyone to enjoy for many years to come.
We would also like to say a
huge big thank you to everyone who has donated their used ink
jet cartridges to our donation box in a Thrapston library. With your kind donations we have recycled 120 carriages and saved them from
going to landfill. It has also raised £90 for our funds at 1st Thrapston Brownies and Guides to continue in our fun and exciting weekly meetings and activities.
If you are interested in volunteering to help our young members or have a daughter who is interested in joining either brownies or guides. Please register your interest at www.girlguiding.org.uk
We look forward to hearing from you.
 Jubilee singing in Thrapston
Local singers are invited to join in with two events to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee at the beginning of June.
At the lighting of the beacon in Peace Park on 2nd June we will be singing the Song for the Commonwealth, especially written for this occasion. On Saturday 4th June we will be staging a concert in St James Church at 4pm of popular vocal classics and music with a royal theme.
There will be four advance rehearsals
available in St James Church Hall on Tuesdays 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st May from 7.30pm
- 9.30pm as well as an afternoon rehearsal on the day. There will be a £10 fee for performers to cover the cost of music and venue hire.
If you are able to take part or would like more details please contact Vincent Davy on 01832 733586 or thrapstonplazaopera@gmail. com. Rehearsal attendance can be flexible
if you can’t make them all. Look forward to seeing you.
